LADIES lost their locks to give to a charity that supports children, young people and their families.

Clients who booked appointments at Shine Hair & Beauty, in Northallerton, saw the cost of their haircuts and colours going towards a makeover for the Specialist Children's Services Centre after the salon hosted a fundraising evening for the charity.

The event raised nearly £360, which centre staff will put towards redecoration of the building which is visited by young people with a range of physical, communication, learning and developmental difficulties and disabilities.

Salon owner Wilson Derbyshire said: "We have to say a big thank you to clients who came along for appointments on our charity night, many of whom booked specifically to support the centre.

"I and my team love to support local causes when we can and this is a great way to do it."

Client Jane Tasker was the first client of the evening. She said: "I saw the charity night advertised and thought I could do with a haircut. I usually come to Shine and I know the staff at the centre do some fabulous work so it's definitely a worthy cause."

Around 15 clients booked appointments during the charity evening, which was also attended by staff from the Northallerton centre.

Speech and language therapist Margaret Mckay added: "We are really grateful for the time and generosity of everybody at Shine, it's been really great."
