PARENTS are being invited to see first-hand what makes an early years unit so good.

Gurney Pease Academy, Darlington, will open its doors on Tuesday, October 20, giving the community the chance to appreciate why Ofsted inspectors rate it ‘good’. The opportunity will also enable those parents and carers of children approaching school age to visit reception class before making a decision about their child’s primary education.

The school’s nursery and reception classes, along with The Gurney Pease Pod for two-year-olds, are inviting visitors to see learning in action and there will be the chance to speak to teachers and pupils about life at the school.

A host of activities will be available from 9.30am to 11.30am for potential pupils to experience. The drop-in session will be open to visitors throughout the morning.

Early Years Lead Jo Gartland said: “It will be a working day so parents and carers will be able to see our children in action and join in the fun. There are huge benefits to be gained from early years provision including developing children’s language, social skills and greater independence.”

The school can cater for 30 children in reception, 26 in nursery and 12 in The      Gurney Pease Pod for families who meet eligibility criteria. There will also be a number of paid places on offer in ‘The Pod’ in the near future.

For more information contact the school on (01325) 380790 or simply turn up on the day.
