SCHOOL choristers provide the Christmas cheer as hardworking hospital staff were treated to a festive lunch.

Classic carols, including Jingle Bells and Away in a Manger, reverberated around the walls of Hollies, the restaurant at Darlington Memorial Hospital.

Year 5 pupils from West Park Academy performed two sets accapella as staff tucked into their Christmas fair.

The performance was the latest in a series around the town by 19 pupils, including a charity sing in Queen’s Street arcade that raised £157 for St Teresa’s Hospice.

Teacher Lauren Pressdee-Rudd said: “Hospital staff do so much for the community that it was only right to give something back. The children sang really well and it all made for a great atmosphere.”

Head of hospital catering Stuart Wray said: “At this time of year it is really important to spread Christmas cheer, particularly in hospital, and the children did a fabulous job providing the perfect atmosphere.”
