A YOUNG singer-musician is set to take his music to the masses after being offered a live slot on local radio.

Matthew Davenport was crowned winner of Trinity's Got Talent, the annual performing arts show at Trinity Academy, in Thorne, for his acoustic rendition of Justin Bieber and Chris Isaak.

Judge Peter Lee, who is station manager at TMCR, was so impressed by Mathew that he offered to put him forward for his Battle of the Bands slot and invited the student into the studio to perform his songs live on the radio.

Matthew was among 12 acts who performed in front of an audience of students, parents and staff in the academy's 11th talent show, which was hosted by former student Josh Bull and organised by house manager Karen Taylor.

Fellow judge Ann Littlefield, who performs with Phoenix Players, added: "There is so much talent at Trinity, it's unbelievable."

Other vocalists included Halle Jackson Key and duo Olivia Hinchcliffe and Bailey Steele.

Harry Phillipson played drums, Leon Chen and Janet Adelowaken played piano, and Elliot Petch was joined by his dad for a violin duet.

Summer Oliver and Jasmine Wood performed contemporary dance routines and Ruby Standeven brought hip-hop to the show.

Maths teacher Ben Murphy proved he is equally talented on the piano, while the staff band played a Christmas medley.

Peter Lee, who was joined on the judging panel by former singer-dancer Denise Brompton and Jules Sweed, bass guitarist with local band Slinky Peach, added: "The talent in the hall was unbelievable and Trinity Academy should be very proud of the people they have here."

Each act represented their house and the scores awarded will go towards the end of year total for the chance to win the House Cup. Mathew's Kings house won the talent show overall.

Principal David Page said: "Trinity's Got Talent is a great showcase of the talent our students have in performing arts. It's not easy to perform in front of an audience and having a go will have helped each act build their confidence and take them to the next level."
