STUDENTS are being offered a taste of sixth form life as an academy opens its doors to new recruits.

Young people who have chosen Trinity Academy, in Thorne, for the next stage of their education will come together over two days.

The opportunity is also open to others who have not yet applied to join the academy but are considering the sixth form.

"It's a great opportunity for students joining us in September to break the ice and to start to get to know each other ahead of the new term," explained Mark Stockey, Associate Director of Sixth Form.

"They will have two taster lessons in the subjects they are interested in studying and also get the chance to take part in team-building games."

The guests will enjoy free lunches in the academy restaurants and get to know the academy's facilities including its £1.2m purpose-built sixth form centre.

Students will be able to discuss courses with teachers and get careers advice and information on the right options appropriate to their future choices.

Mr Stockey added: "Anyone who hasn't applied yet can contact the sixth form team to attend the days and submit an application."

Last year's A level pass rate at Trinity was 99 per cent with 45 per cent of all grades being B or better. The academy is rated 'outstanding' for value added and the sixth form is judged by Ofsted as ‘good’. Eighty per cent of sixth formers last year went on to university.

The academy offers 28 subjects at A level as well as applied A levels in health and social care and ICT and BTEC level 3 courses in sport and business.

Students take part on a two-day induction programme at the start of sixth form and can get involved in a range of opportunities including Duke of Edinburgh award, volunteering, work placements, RAF leadership training, sport and performing arts.

From September, the academy is operating an additional new bus service from Barnby Dun to open up sixth form opportunities for students to the south west of Thorne.

The free taster days at Trinity Academy are on June 22 and 23. For more information or to book a place, tel: 01405 813000.
