STUDENTS danced up a storm as they entertained a packed audience with their repertoire of moves.
Pupils from The King’s Academy, Coulby Newham, staged an inaugural two- hour spectacular showcasing a variety of dance styles.
Hundreds of families and friends packed the hall to see an array of performances, ranging from ballet solos to street dance, perfected by the students over many weeks of rehearsals.
Irish dancing was complemented by Bollywood routines as the show took the audience on a cultural tour of the globe.
Music varied from Michael Jackson to One Direction, Mariah Carey to Chris Brown. No dance celebration would be complete without an excerpt from Fame and the extravaganza was brought to a tumultuous conclusion with a contemporary version of the classic Singing in the Rain.
Director and choreographer Danielle Dodsworth said the students had put in hundreds of hours of practice and the spectacular performance was reward for their efforts.
“All the students performed exceptionally well and the response from the audience was overwhelming,” she said.
“Dance is an important element of the arts at The King's Academy and demonstrates a host of skills including discipline, co-ordination and commitment. It was great to see the students and the audience have such a great time and hopefully this celebration event will be the first of many.”
