A CUTTING edge architect’s practice has moved headquarters reaffirming its confidence in the town it has helped shape.

Niven Architects has transferred operations from a Georgian townhouse in Coniscliffe Road, Darlington, to a 21st century business park across town that is home to some of the region’s most innovative companies.

A 2,500sqft open plan design studio, featuring the latest in modern technology, the offices are now home to a staff of design experts who have transformed Darlington with the new Feethams leisure complex.

The new headquarters at Business Central, between the railway station and Darlington College, sets the tone for ambitious expansion plans using the very latest cloud design technology.

Director Simon Crowe explained the move. He said: “Our Coniscliffe Road premises have served us well for many years but we require working practices which allow us to further improve the collaborative work for which we have become renowned.”

Fellow director Peter Hodges added: “The latest industry requirements mean that we need to react quickly and creatively. You can only do that by being on the same floor, in a healthy environment, that allows us to bounce around ideas and share experiences.

“It will boost communications and be a lot more convenient. It allows us to identify issues and developments and create the very best design solutions.”

The new office suite features a reception, conference room and offices, as well as overflow and storage space. High speed communications will also aid design work and the office is just two minutes walk from Darlington Railway Station allowing easy access to clients from around the country.

Staff also benefit from a shared breakout atrium and from being part of an innovative business community in the burgeoning Central Park area of town.

The multi-award winning practice has been responsible for some of the North-East’s most significant buildings including Feethams, MC6, Middlesbrough College’s sixth form centre, Cleveland College of Art and Design, Daffodil House, a bespoke homes scheme at Hemlington that is transforming the lives of its residents, Beaumont House, Darlington, offices at Wynyard and St Teresa’s Hospice in-patient unit, Darlington.
