A STUDENT who hasn’t had more than a light trim for six years has lost her luxuriant locks for a good cause.

Darlington School of Mathematics and Science student Caitlin Howie swapped her plaits for a No4 cut to help a charity which helps sick children.

The hair and sponsorship money will be presented to the Little Princess Trust, a charity providing wigs free of charge to children who have lost their own through cancer treatment and other illnesses.

Mobile hairdresser Jodie Cleghorn performed the honours in front of her dad Pat and a crowd of school friends.

“I have always wanted to do something for charity and found the Little Princess Trust on the internet,” said Caitlin, who wants to be a marine biologist one day.

“I haven’t had much more than a light trim for the past six years so thought I would go for a No4 and donate my plaits to children who need them. I didn’t mind long hair though it could get very big unless I straightened it.”
