AN 11-year-old boy became living proof of the benefits of supportive education as he stood before an audience of hundreds to reassure children about the transition to secondary school.

Richmond School student Peter Longstaff told Year 6 pupils and their families attending an open evening: “It isn’t that scary and there is always someone around to give you a helping hand.

“The subjects are in much more depth and there are new ones like dance and drama. There are state of the art facilities so you can work to your heart’s content and the teachers are very supportive. As for lunch, you will not be disappointed.”

Visitors also heard from sixth form students Ben Rainbow and Caitlin Martin as well as Year 7 student Eve Kerr about life at Richmond School and Sixth Form College and they were entertained by the jazz band before touring the facilities.

Head teacher Ian Robertson said: “We are immensely proud of our history which stretches back to 1372. Our capacity and curriculum allow our students to enjoy themselves and excel. We exist to ensure every student who attends here fulfils their dreams, ambitions and aspirations.

“Our aim is to make sure students achieve their very best and leave with fond memories.”
