A GENEROUS donation will add even more fond memories to a hospice which strives to provide peerless care to the community.

Darlington Building Society chose an annual Burns Supper to donate £35,000 to St Teresa’s Hospice, which will equip and in-patient room and provide a memories area for the people of Darlington, South West Durham and North Yorkshire.

DBS chief executive Colin Fyfe told guests at Mercure King’s Head, Darlington: “We have raised £160,000 and this hospice donation will help us meet one of our three pledges. These funds will help equip one of the amazing bedrooms in the new in-patient unit and also a sharing memories area in the hospice.”

St Teresa’s Hospice chief executive Jane Bradshaw said: “The lovely memories space will also generate even more income in years to come. It takes £2.2m a year to keep the hospice operating and we can only do this thanks to our 400 volunteers, 130 staff and with the support of the community.”

Hospice president Alasdair MacConachie added: “The new in-patient unit truly is amazing and it caters for the needs of the local community so well because the staff do a fantastic job. It’s the people who make the hospice possible and I hope they will keep supporting it.”
