A SCHOOL has shown the quality of its provision for helping students prepare for their futures with a range of learning opportunities aimed at careers and work.

The Dales School, Morton-on-Swale, has been awarded the national Quality in Careers Standard becoming one of only 25 per cent nationally to achieve the coveted status.

Richmond MP Rishi Sunak was on hand to officially present the certificate to students as well as sample another high quality item – the home-made scones – as he also formally opened a shop and new look café at the school, between Northallerton and Bedale.

The Quality in Careers Standard was awarded to the school by national body CSW Investor in Careers for its outstanding provision of careers education, information, advice and guidance to students.

Mr Sunak said: “The right advice is incredibly important to give young people the foundations for a fulfilling working life.

“In order to reach their full potential, and therefore have a fantastic life, they must be exposed to all the amazing opportunities out there for them.”

Headteacher Ann-Marie Ellis said: “It is wonderful to celebrate this achievement which is testament to the dedication and hard work of staff, collaborating with parents, to ensure that all of our students have access to a future that offers personalised and sustainable outcomes.”

Chairman of governors Paul Chubb is national director of Quality in Careers but was not involved in the external assessment.

He said assessors had accredited The Dales School against seven key criteria including strength of leadership and management, competence of staff, an underpinning curriculum that explains the options, routes and providers, the county council’s provision of external careers guidance, involvement of employers and parents and evidence from young people of the positive impact on their lives.

He said: “I know Rishi takes a keen interest in this issue and has asked questions on careers guidance in Parliament. We are delighted to have his support which is much appreciated.

“Only 25 per cent of the four thousand secondary schools in England achieve this coveted standard and it is wonderful to be recognised for the quality of the careers support we give our students.”
