STUDENTS and staff are celebrating after their school was once again ranked among the best in the country.

Official figures based on GSCE results released by the Department for Education placed Stokesley School, part of the Areté Learning Trust, in top echelon of schools across the North East and North Yorkshire.

Stokesley School draws over a quarter of its students from Middlesbrough and is once again one of the highest performing schools in the Tees Valley.

Schools are graded on their results, including progress and attainment. Stokesley scored 0.34 in Progress 8 placing it in the top fifth of schools nationally.

Students are also assessed in key subject areas including maths, English, sciences, humanities and languages. The resultant English Baccalaureate pass rate of 55 per cent was well over twice the national average of 24 per cent.

Headteacher Catherine Brooker said: “This has been another great year with students putting in consistently high performances.

“The results clearly vindicate the confidence we have in our students to rise to the challenge, tackle the highest quality qualifications and achieve some incredible grades. It is also testament to the hard work of our teaching staff, with the support of parents and governors, to create a learning environment that allows young people to be their very best.”
