STUDENTS have been planning their futures after exploring the opportunities of college life.

Richmond Sixth Form College opened its doors to its sixth form centre and also hosted a higher education fair to help students choose their best path to learning.

Universities and colleges from as far away as St Andrews in Scotland, Sheffield and Lincoln set out their stalls alongside local providers at a fact-finding event called Future Inspirations.

In the evening Year 11 students from schools across the region were invited to sample the facilities and courses at Richmond Sixth Form and meet staff and students.

Richmond School and Sixth Form College careers and employment manager Liz Mannion said: “We always have a good turn out of HE providers who really seem to enjoy the event as they get to talk to a large number of students genuinely interested in post-18 qualifications.

“For students, the session allows them to ask questions, dispel many myths and gain confidence, preparing them for other UCAS events they will attend in the future.

“For the Year 11s, who are still deciding on their A levels, the day helps direct them along the right path qualification-wise for careers they are interested in.”

For Joe Collins, 17, of Richmond, the session was an opportunity to talk to representatives from Lincoln University about reading a degree in architecture.

“It was really useful hearing about the course content,” he said. “It is a long training – seven years – but I think it will be worth it to have a career which I am passionate about and is different every day.”
