THE spotlight has fallen on a student with West End aspirations as she and a schoolmate have been recognised for their endeavours.
Northallerton School and Sixth Form College students Theodora Crocker and Joe Barron were awarded the prestigious Cuthbert Cross for their contribution to school life.
First awarded in 1910, the sold silver cross is given annually to a boy and girl who ‘by loyal chivalrous and honourable conduct have done the most to enhance the character and reputation of the school’.
The worthy winners are chosen by students and staff to receive what is the highest honour the school can bestow.
Theodora, 18, is a passionate singer and actor and has just enjoyed a leading role in the school production of 9-5.
She hopes to read musical theatre at the University of Chichester with the ultimate aim of treading the boards in the West End one day.
Theodora was recognised for her part in setting up the new leadership team. She also ran assemblies for all year groups, helped the charity team organise fundraisers, was on the interview panel for new staff and worked with children with special educational needs and disabilities.
She represented the school at the Yorkshire Youth Voice Conference, was a regular steward in cross country events, is a choir member and choreographer in school productions.
She said: “Everyone nominated deserved recognition in my eyes so it was a genuine privilege to be awarded the Cuthbert Cross. What an incredible way to end our time here.”
Joe was also part of the student leadership team and was an active fundraiser for charitable causes. He played for the sixth form football team, took part in area swimming galas and is a member of a water polo club. He plans to read fitness, exercise and nutrition at Leeds Trinity University.
“The Cuthbert Cross has been presented for so many years so it is an amazing honour to be among its recipients, particularly as we were chosen by our peers as well as staff,” he said.
Head of sixth form Bronia Harris said: “Theodora and Joe are both worthy recipients as they have gone the extra mile throughout their time here. They have worked hard in all aspects of community life and have been a pleasure to work with.
“They are unassuming and excellent in everything they do, are brilliant role models and they will go far in life.”
