STUDENTS have made an art form of their work with an exhibition showcasing their creativity and innovation.
Darlington College students displayed their inspired works of art at a public exhibition in the town’s Kings Head Mercure Hotel.
Featuring more than 40 pieces of original work in fine art, photography and graphic design, the exhibition also included work by adult learners attending the college’s photography short courses.
Darlington College programme leader Abby Potter said: “We usually hold our end our year exhibition within the college but this year we decided to host it in an outside venue to try and attract a much wider public audience.
“Many of our artists are exhibiting for the very first time and their work not only highlights the creativity and individuality that we encourage at Darlington College, it also provides a platform for our students to make the next step into higher education or into professional creative industries.”
A section of the exhibition was also put on display for a week within the town’s Cornmill Centre with the rest featuring at the Open Doors Festival at Darlington College.
Student Caitlin Turner, 20, of Newton Aycliffe, who exhibited her light and shadow portraiture, said: “This is the first time that I have put my photography on public display.
“I’m so proud and it’s been wonderful having so many people come to see the show.”
George Turnbull, 19, of Darlington, who is looking to study photography at Sheffield University, added: “It’s a real thrill to see your work displayed in a public place.
“I’ve been a bit of a nervous wreck watching people physically looking at my photographs and giving their feedback on the exhibition but it has all been really positive which is fantastic.”
