SPORTING students showed their athletic prowess as they represented their school at prestigious championships.

Students from Northallerton School and Sixth Form College took to the track and field for Hambleton and Richmondshire Area Schools in the North Yorkshire Athletic Trials at York University.

The nine students, including Lorna Kirby, Amber Williamson, Yasmin Marshall, Poppy Stokes, Jack Leggott, Matthew Rayner, Emma Hart, Millie Smith and Jess Alderson demonstrated their skills in the 300m, long jump, 100m hurdles, 200m and 3,000m.

Head of sports faculty Anna Harvey said: “The squad gave a fantastic performance in a competition where the standard was extremely high.

“It is an amazing achievement to be asked to represent the area team and some of our young athletes gave incredible stand-out performances.”

Year 9 student Emma Hart, 14, of Great Smeaton, put on an outstanding display of running finishing first in the 3,000m.

Emma, who also runs for the North Yorkshire Cross Country squad, said: “My personal best for the 3,000m is 10.36 but because it was a hot day I managed finish in 11 minutes which I was quite pleased with.

“This is the first time that I’ve represented the North Yorkshire team in athletics and I think the whole team did really well.”
