IT was lights, camels, action as pupils took to the stage for a strictly Christmas extravaganza.

Judges gave Year 3 and 4 pupils at Eldon Grove Academy, Hartlepool, a perfect 10 as they danced their way to the glitter ball final in a glamour and sequins nativity parody of Strictly Come Dancing.

Camels hoofed their way through a funky disco routine, with angels, shepherds and kings showing their skills in tango, line dancing and ballet.

The whole dazzling show was recorded by The Eldon Grove Academy broadcasting team who gave regular updates to the audience on the impending birth of baby Jesus.

Year 4 teacher and play director Liam Muir said: “It’s an ambitious play but with 135 pupils in our cohort we wanted to make sure that there were lots of dancing, singing and acting parts for everyone to get involved.

“Although it has been great fun with fantastic songs and spectacular dancing the story throughout the entire play also reflects the real Christmas story which of course makes it strictly a nativity.”

The judges comprised the innkeeper’s wife, an angel and Caesar Augustus with the leading parts of Mary and Joseph played by eight-year-old Honey Farman and James Casey, seven.

“I watch Strictly sometimes and I like all of the glitter and sequins on the dresses,” said Honey.

“My costume has glitter and sequins on it too and it’s been a lot of fun doing a dancing nativity.”
