A SUBSEA engineering company is on the crest of a wave after landing the biggest contract in its history for hardware for a project under the Caspian Sea.

Supergrip (UK) Limited, which specialises in supplying bespoke equipment for the subsea industry, has secured a £1.7m order with a global engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning company working in the gas and oil industry.

Supergrip, run by directors Gordon Conlon and Darren Blackburn, specialises in supplying bespoke equipment for the protection of subsea umbilicals, flexible risers and steel pipelines during installation and operation.

The engineering offices are in Coniscliffe Road, Darlington and the production facility is located in Colne, Lancashire, with CNC machine shops in Accrington.

Supergrip is currently working with clients from across the world including Malaysia, Australia and Norway.

The latest contract will see the firm supply, manufacture and test a wide range of fabricated and machined hardware, including tensioners, bearings and winches, for subsea platforms to be constructed in the Caspian Sea, as well as offering engineering assistance.

Mr Conlon said: “The timing could not have been better as we have just expanded the business by acquiring the machine shop. This has allowed us to add bespoke hardware to our product sourcing and service offering.”

He said: “These are exciting times and since we rebranded in 2015 we have seen significant growth. The latest contract, which comes in the wake of other exciting projects secured this year, will allow us to progress further and result in the company posting record results at the end of the financial year.”

Two further research and development projects are at an advanced stage thanks to business funding assistance.

“We are excited about the potential of both products with the first about to be launched within the next month,” Mr Conlon said.

Mr Blackburn added: “Winning this contract is reward for the diligent work put in by our team over the course of the past three months to provide the optimum solution to an extensive scope of supply.

“We are delighted with how the hardware side of the business is developing, with a number of completed contracts receiving some excellent client feedback. Our goal now is to continue this growth by developing products and new market sectors.”
