ARTISTIC students have shed a light on their creative talents by supporting their town with their handiwork.

Barnard Castle School students have been making lanterns depicting silhouettes of local landmarks.

The artworks will form part of a parade around Barnard Castle on November 29 as Mayor Sandra Moorhouse officially kicks off the Christmas festivities.

Year 8 and 9 pupils have been making the lanterns with images including the mechanical swan of Bowes Museum and High Force. Around 21 junior boarders from Barnard Castle School will join the parade.

Head of art Kate Baptist said: “It is such a lovely idea to light up the town on the dark days before Christmas and our students have loved being involved in the project.”
