SCHOOL children have been working flat out to produce gift packs spanning the generations to cheer residents of a retirement home.
Beaumont Hill Academy pupils rallied to the cause when asked to help residents through the difficulties of the coronavirus pandemic.
Part of the Education Village, Darlington, Beaumont Hill Academy students used their creative skills to produce a host of cheerful gift and activity packs containing cards with messages designed to lift the spirits of residents who may be feeling particularly isolated.
Principal Caroline Green said: “As a school we are always looking to see how we can support and interact with our local community, this is particularly important during times like these.
“As expected, the pupils were delighted when we were approached by a parent, who is currently working within Ted Fetcher Court, with an idea.
“The children quickly began making suggestions about what they could create and together, with the support of the staff, the pupils have ensured there are enough gift and activity packs for each of the 44 residents.
“The children and staff have thoroughly enjoyed creating these gift packs. We hope that they brighten their day and that our relationship will continue in the future, allowing us the opportunity to meet the residents when we are out of lockdown.”
