STUDENTS were helped to shine with a pre-awards pampering session before stepping out for a special school celebration.

Pupils from The Dales Schools, Morton-on- Swale, enjoyed complimentary hair and beauty treatments from a stylist and beauty therapists from SHINE Hair & Beauty, in Northallerton, before taking part in their school’s annual awards evening.

Creating perfect curls and polished manicures, SHINE beauty experts Jenny Leung and Nicole Jent, and stylist Hayley Readman, ensured pupils Cheryl McDonald, Ella Coulson, Bethany Siddle and Chloe Thirling, from the all-age special school, were red carpet ready for their glittering event.

SHINE, the newest name for hair and beauty in North Yorkshire, has become one of the first corporate sponsors for The Dales School after it launched a £60,000 appeal to refurbish its outdated hydrotherapy pool - a vital facility that is crucial to the learning of students with severe and complex needs.

Owner of SHINE, Wilson Derbyshire, said: “As soon as the team heard about the Dales School's appeal we wanted to do what we could to help such a vital cause.

"Giving some of the girls a makeover before their special awards event was just the start; we're planning a host of fundraising events in our Northallerton salon with all the money raised going to the appeal."

With make-up and hair complete, the four students joined fellow pupils, teachers, family and friends for a Hollywood-style celebration where they were each presented with their awards.

SHINE stylist Hayley Readman said: “It’s lovely to be able to come to the school and give the students some pampering.

“I created some up-dos and lots of curls and Jenny and Nicole made sure the girls looked very glamorous with sparkling nails and gorgeous make up.”

Student Cheryl McDonald, 17, of Middleton Tyas, added: “I liked getting my hair and make-up done - it made me feel like a Hollywood star.”

Dales School deputy head teacher Anne Baker said: “It’s wonderful for our students that the stylists from SHINE came to get them ready for our awards evening and even more fantastic that they have offered to become one of our school's corporate sponsors.

“Even though it has just been launched we have already had a fantastic response to our hydrotherapy appeal, with some very generous donations, and having SHINE as a corporate sponsor will get us even closer to reaching our target.”
