WW1 inspired dress to take centre stage at prestigious show

AN eye-catching dress inspired by the poppy fields of war ravaged Europe will prove to be a show-stopper as it hits the catwalks for the first time.

Designed by Northallerton College student Maisy Bradbury the memorial couture is just one piece of a stunning collection that will grace the runway at the Great Yorkshire Show.

In total eight pieces have been included in the three-day catwalk spectacular, which annually forms a key element of the county’s premier show.

The work has been completed by pupils studying AS and A2 textiles and Northallerton College is the only school to take part in the prestigious fashion event.

Maisy, 17, of South Otterington, said: “I feel really proud to have been selected to take part as I never imagined my work would be shown in such a prestigious setting.

“I was inspired by the centenary of World War I and nothing captures this better than using poppies.”

Assistant head of faculty Linda Breckon added: “The students’ work is of such high standard that it will look perfectly at home in such esteemed company.

“The fashion show is always absolutely packed which means the girls’ designs will be seen by thousands of people over the three days, which is an amazing opportunity for the students.”

The Great Yorkshire Show takes place in Harrogate on July 8, 9 and 10.
