MONTHS of rehearsals ended on a high note with a peerless performance for parents as pupils took to the stage with a musical extravaganza to remember.

Popular songs from classic musicals were performed to perfection by Year 3 to 6 students at Reid Street Academy, Darlington.

A Night at the Musicals featured song and dance from the Wizard of Oz, Oliver and a host of Walt Disney movies.

There were also dance performances featuring young dancers who recently won awards for self-belief at a town-wide festival held at the Civic Theatre.

Pupils auditioned for solo parts and up to 50 children spent up to six months rehearsing for the show.

Organised and arranged by teachers Jenny Hobson, Claire Kelly, Hilary Stephenson Natalie Bromley and teaching assistant Michelle Rimmer, the hour-long show was enjoyed by a packed family audience.

Mrs Kelly said: “Last year we staged Joseph which went really well. This year we set them the challenge of learning several musicals and they did incredibly well.

“They worked exceptionally hard which came through in the final performance and all the students were very excited.”
