IT was lucky number 13 for jubilant students who saw stars after opening their GCSE results.

Bright sparks, Matthew Webb, Daniel Cutler, Catherine Watson, Rhiannon Hinton, Alexandra Logan, Eleanor Walton, Liam Geach, Thomas Walters, Michael Darlington, Ben Stuart, Louise Chapman, James Walters and Jacob Fitter,  of Northallerton College, North Yorkshire, accumulated a total of 58 A*s and 60 A grades between them ranking them amongst the most talented students in the country.

Associate principal Stephen Merrifield said: “This year we have twice as many students who achieved A* and A grades at Northallerton College.

“But just as importantly we celebrate the achievements of all of our students who have worked so incredibly hard for their results.”

Student Tom Walters, who gained four A*s, five As and two Bs is to continue his further education at Northallerton College’s sixth form studying maths, further maths, physics and chemistry.

“I was hoping for good results and am very pleased with the grades I achieved,” he said.

“The teaching staff  here are excellent so I’m hoping that I’ll do just as well in my A levels in a few years time.”

Alexandra Logan who achieved five A*s, four As and two Bs added: “I’m very happy with my grades.

“I did a lot better than I thought I would.

“It was a lot of hard work but I got a lot of help from the teachers and just tried to make each subject as interesting as possible which really helped.”
