EQUESTRIAN art is to take centre stage as a talented young artist stages her inaugural exhibition.

A lifetime love of horses has motivated Cleveland College of Art & Design student Louise Turner to showcase her work to the public for the first time.

Paintings by the 18-year-old Darlington artist will be exhibited at the Shout About Art  pop-up exhibition due to be held on Sunday, November 16, at Hurworth Grange, Hurworth, near Darlington.

“I’ve never exhibited any of my work before so I’m a bit nervous about the reaction I’ll get,” said Louise who is currently studying A level fine art, photography and the history of art.

“I’ve been around horses all my life, my mum has a horse and I learnt to ride when I was only four years old.

“I love the power and the grace that they exude and the elegant way in which they move and this is what I try to capture in my paintings.”

A former student of Haughton Education Village, Darlington, Louise was inspired to pursue her love of drawing by art teacher David Haskett.

“Most of my teachers were pushing me down the academic route but Mr Haskett allowed me to express myself and my personality through art.

“I’d always loved painting but also wanted to be a vet when I was at school so painting animals is absolutely perfect.”

Louise, one of 22 artists who will be showcasing their work at Shout About Art, will be exhibiting 15 canvasses in a variety of sizes alongside smaller paper portraits and will be available to book commissions for portraits on the day.

The Shout About Art pop up exhibitions are the concept of artist and college lecturer Donna Slyfield enabling up and coming artists and designer makers to demonstrate their creative skills alongside established artists.

Visitors will have the opportunity to view, buy and commission original artwork, from fine art, jewellery, textiles, ceramics, print, illustration and photography.

“I’m really excited about our latest exhibition,” said Donna, of Hurworth, near Darlington.

“We had such a great response to our last pop up event and as an artist and college lecturer in art, I know how important it is to give aspiring new artists like Louise a local platform to promote their talents.”

Entry is £2 on the door with children under 14 years old free when accompanied by a paying adult. Discounted family and friend’s tickets for four adults are available from www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/shout-about-art-hurworth-tickets.

Exhibitors will also be featured on the Shout About Art website – www.shoutaboutart.com – where full details of the event can be found. Louise’s work can be viewed on Facebook at Louise Turner’s Art
