PRIMARY school children dug out their winter woollies to help children less fortunate around the globe.

Wacky woollies of all shapes, sizes, colours and designs helped pupils at Cockerton Primary School, Darlington, raise £173.53 for Save the Children.

The Christmas jumper day is expected to raise thousands of pounds nationally for children living in more than 120 countries, from Syria to Liberia, Brazil to Bangladesh.

Assistant head teacher Kay Boyce said: “When our children heard about the plight of babies living in these countries they were only too pleased to help. The money will be used to buy life-saving antibiotics for babies fighting infections.

“The children were very excited to come to school in their best jumpers and it was a lovely thing to do in the run up to Christmas helping us all get in the festive spirit.”
