MUSICIANS will get their fundraising off on a high note after staging a special concert for charity.

Northallerton College choir will be joined by students from the Allertonshire School, the college Jazz Orchestra and the town’s Male Voice Choir in a two hour spectacular on March 13 at 7.30pm, in the college hall, Grammar School Lane.

Funds will go to the Dales School, which last year launched a £60,000 appeal to refurbish a vital facility that is crucial to the learning of students with severe and complex needs.

The Morton-on-Swale school provides specialist co-education to 50 students aged two to 19 from across the region.

For the past 27 years it has been the only facility outside of the James Cook Hospital, Middlesbrough, to offer the community a hydrotherapy pool.

But the key facility is now in desperate need of refurbishment so the school can continue its invaluable work. So far £46,000 has been raised with the concert expected to boost the total.

Conducted by Andrea Rhodes, the concert will see the coming together for the first time of the young musicians and members of the Northallerton Male Voice Choir.

The programme will feature a variety of classical and modern music including Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Tears in Heaven, I’m a Believer, Happy, Fields of Gold and One Day More from Les Miserables.

Mrs Rhodes said: “The students have been working hard for the past two months and are delighted to be doing something for such a great cause.”

The original pool was open 26 years ago by Olympic swimmer Adrian Moorhouse and footballer Bryan Robson. It replaced a facility lost with the closure of St John of God’s Hospital at Scorton.

Since then it has brought much needed relief to countless students many of who have undergone surgery or live with poor circulation and supported their physical development.

Tickets, £8 and £5 for concessions, are available from Northallerton College and the Allertonshire School receptions, from Northallerton Male Voice Choir members or by phoning (01609) 760474 after 5pm.
