CHARITY-conscious students have been showing off their creativity on the catwalk with a fashion extravaganza to remember.

Year 10, 11, 12 and 13 students from Northallerton School and Sixth Form College dazzled an audience with their flair modelling a diverse range of clothing, toys and bags for the first time.

The culmination of months of work, the collection of more than 40 items gained a 60-minute public airing in the school hall.

The well-supported event will raise much-needed funds for the MRI Scanner Appeal at Northallerton’s Friarage Hospital and the Hydrotherapy Pool Appeal at the Dales School, Morton-on-Swale. A contribution will also be made to Year 13 student Maisy Bradbury who is planning a Guides voluntary trip to Thailand.

Visitors enjoyed 15 models sporting wares ranging from Harry Potter inspired cloaks to costumes for film and stage, including a version of the dress worn by the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland.

There were also dresses styled in the 1920s and 1960s, shorts outfits, ice dance costumes and an ensemble that might have been worn by pop sensation Taylor Swift. Models also sported bags, fabric books and throws.

Design, technology and textiles teacher Linda Breckon said: “The students have been working hard all year and the result was an impressive, individual and creative collection that used a wide range of decoration techniques and construction skills with some fine attention to detail.

“Next year we plan to include Years 7, 8 and 9 making the show a cross-school and college production.”

For Aimee Hall, 18, of Northallerton, the show was a chance to exhibit skills that she plans to hone at Huddersfield University when she studies a BA Hons degree in costume design.

She said: “I have always been interested in costumes and used to make them as a child with my aunty. The aim is to work, one day, in film or theatre and my Queen of Hearts dress was inspired by Alice in Wonderland.”

Jack Middlebrook, 17, of Northallerton, displayed a double denim outfit and is looking forward to continuing his studies with a degree in fashion and merchandising at Manchester Metropolitan University.

“I would love to be a buyer and travel the world sourcing materials,” he said. “The show was a taste of opportunities that are available to us in the world of fashion.”
