A TALENTED athlete is keeping all her balls in the air as she decides which one of her favourite sports to pursue. Barnard Castle Preparatory School pupil Sophia Hodges is proving to be good at both netball and rugby as she hones her skills at school. The ten-year-old, of Piercebridge, has just been selected for the U13s county development squad because of her potential as a wing defence or goal defence. She hopes one day to play for England. But she has also been picking up man of the match awards playing rugby 7s with the boys and she can see herself joining the Red Roses. “My dad got me interested in rugby as he used to play,” said Sophia, who is a member of Darlington Rugby Club. “I started playing and really liked it. I’d love to play professionally one day and for the Red Roses who are so good.” Sophia is also a member of the Darlington netball team Headlanders. “I feel very proud to have been selected for U13s county and love playing alongside the older girls. England netball are really good too so I’ll just have to see which sport I am the best at and enjoying the most when I am older.” Prep School head of sport Martin Burgess said: “Sophia has a natural talent for both sports and is also very competitive, attributes that will take her far. We are all very proud of her achievements.”
