THE Opening day of an annual church flower festival got off to a rousing start thanks to young voices.

The Bede Academy Choir performed a concert on the first day of the event at Central Methodist Church, in Blyth.

Led by Director of Music at Bede Academy Helen Kerr, the choir sang a varied repertoire including songs of praise and traditional North East folk songs.

Mrs Kerr said: “It’s been our pleasure to help open the Central Methodist Church flower festival for a number of years. It’s always a joyous occasion and it’s great to see so many members of the congregation and other visitors come along.”

The festival culminated on Sunday with a concert by Bedlington Salvation Army Band.
