HUNDREDS of young athletes made sporting memories as they took to the hockey and rugby pitches for an annual festival of sport. Around 350 children from across the country descended on Barnard Castle School for a two day U10s and U12s rugby and hockey competition. Competing in the Seddon and Ewart Cups, Clegg Festival and Tait 10s competitions, games were officiated by students who had taken their official referee’s qualifications. Competitors played in sunshine and heavy showers shrugging off the mixed conditions to enjoy the games. Barnard Castle School headmaster Tony Jackson said: “I was delighted to welcome so many schools to the festival of sport which proved once again to be a very special occasion. “Established more than 15 years ago, the annual event has grown over time and we welcomed back old friends and made new ones among the teams who joined us for the first time. Keenly contested, the festival highlighted everything that is wonderful about team sport.”
