SCHOOLBOY footballers are celebrating after reaching the final of a town-wide competition in emphatic style.

St Aidan’s Academy Year 11s will now compete in the final of the Darlington Town Football contest, which is to be held at Rockliffe Hall, on Wednesday May 6.

Hot on the heels of a quarter final 3-2 victory against Hummersknott Academy, St Aidan’s took the semi-final with an 8-1 rout.

Team captain Ethan Harker said: “It was a tougher match than the score reflects. The first half was particularly difficult and by half-time we were 1-1 against The Education Village.”

St Aidan’s player Reagan Britton scored four while Ethan scored a brace and Bailey Weir and Connor Wright one apiece.

Also playing were Ryan Bainbridge, Andrew Cocker, Sean Ogston, Owen Porter, Jason West, Dawson Clark, Declan Stranks, Lee Hume and Jack Parker.

PE teacher Tom Ptak said: “The boys have played incredibly well against some tough opposition. They play well as a team but also boast some fantastic individual skills.

“They will need to be at the top of their game in the final but they are all fired up and I am sure will do their utmost to clinch the title.”
