SOLICITORS and support staff at a North East law firm got their heads together to help a charity that supports people with brain injury and their families.
The team from BHP Law offices across the region held a Hats for Headway day, sporting a range of headgear to raise money for the local group during national Action for Brain Injury Week.
Specialist lawyers from BHP have represented clients who have suffered brain injuries due to negligence, and also act on behalf of those who secure significant damages as court of protection advocates.
The firm supported the founders of the Darlington and District branch of Headway when it was established and individual solicitors have continued to help where they can.
The group is run by volunteers, who include neuro-clinical and business professionals, and delivers a range of services not provided by the NHS.
Solicitor Philippa Roberts said: "Although the Darlington branch is relatively new, it's going from strength to strength, securing its own premises and doing amazing work to support those who have suffered brain injuries and their families.
"Traffic accidents, sports injuries and other incidents can lead to sudden, acquired brain injury for which no one can be prepared. It can change someone's personality and capabilities over night and that can have a huge impact on families.
"Once a survivor leaves hospital there is no statutory support for the family in Darlington and the Tees Valley. That's where Headway comes in, offering care and friendship and showing people they're not alone so they can start to rebuild their lives."
As well as raising money, the firm is aiming to raise awareness of brain injury and the help provided by Headway.
