STUDENT leaders have been voted by their peers to become official ambassadors for their school.

Eldon Grove Academy, Hartlepool, has appointed Year 6 pupils Liam Rennie and Navila Azad as its new head boy and girl.

The pupils were among ten Year 6 students who competed in the annual classroom election for the coveted positions.

Head of School Audrey Brahimi said: “All of our Year 6 pupils were invited to put themselves forward for our academy’s student leadership roles.

“We had ten pupils who applied, each of whom was then asked to deliver a presentation on why they would make a good representative for the academy, before the rest of our Year 5 and 6 students took part in a secret ballot.

“I am delighted with the result of the vote and am sure that both Liam and Navila will be excellent ambassadors for our school.”

Votes were also counted for the roles of deputy head boy and deputy head girl which were awarded to Alfie Brush and Cassie Gray, both ten.

The pupils will attend school council meetings, lead assemblies, represent the pupil voice, show visitors around the school and sit in on staff interviews, among other duties.

“Having a head boy and girl is a natural progression from our school council,” said Mrs Brahimi.

“We are always working to develop speech and listening proficiency within school and our elections give students another opportunity to increase their public speaking skills and increase their confidence as young leaders.

“Alongside that they will also be an invaluable link between students and staff and act as role models to our younger pupils.”

Head boy Liam, ten, of Hartlepool, added: “I thought applying to be head boy would be very exciting and a really good achievement.

“It is a privilege to be able to help co-ordinate the school as a pupil and I want to help raise the belief among students at Eldon Grove Academy that potential is our passion.”

Navila, ten, of Hartlepool, said: “I hope that I can be a good role model for our academy and make everyone who voted for me proud.”
