YOUNG singers took Christmas cheer into the community with a special performance for a town’s senior citizens.

Year 6 pupils from Barnard Castle Preparatory School performed a medley of festive songs accompanied by residents of Charles Dickens Lodge.

Director of Prep School Music Dr Robin Harrison said: “We met up with residents around the time of harvest festival and thought it might be nice to go back at Christmas.

“It is important that our pupils feel part of the community and they were delighted to perform for residents. The performance also counts towards pupils’ Community Achievement Award.”

Resident Maureen Vassiliou added: “This was a lovely surprise and we all enjoyed singing along with the choir. The young people were an absolute delight and really boosted the festive spirit in the lodge.”
