It’s been another fantastic year for Beaumont Hill pupils in the GCSE results. Sometimes, it is not the grades which are the cause for celebration, but the challenges that pupils have faced to achieve them.
Two pupils who demonstrate this fantastically are Ben McGee and Cameron Barlow.
Both of these students have high levels of anxiety due to their Autism and have had very challenging experiences in school.
Ben came to the school in Y5. A bright young man who wanted to do well, he found managing his emotions and behaviour difficult. Through building relationships within the school, Ben learned to manage these challenges and was able to start re-accessing some mainstream lessons starting with History. Ben has completed a full range of GCSE’s and has achieved good passes in all of them, setting him up for a future which will start with continuing his education at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College.
Cameron started life in another school in the EVAT, however he found that mainstream education was far too overwhelming for him. This led to him spending 18 months out of school. He joined Beaumont Hill in Y6 and quickly settled, attending his first residential within 6 months. 6 years later and Cameron has achieved good grades in all his qualifications, and is well equipped to begin his next chapter at Darlington College.
We wish both the boys, and all the students from this year’s leaving cohort, the best of luck for the future.
