STUDENTS had their work experience nailed when they delivered pamper sessions to the town’s senior citizens.

Darlington College Level 2 beauty students visited a number of homes in Darlington and Middleton St George offering manicures and hand massages.

The latest session was delivered to tenants of Dalkeith House Extra Care flats, Hummersknott, where nine students shared their new-found expertise and gained invaluable work experience at the same time.

Senior lecturer in beauty Jo Johns said: “It is so nice being able to head out in to the community again after the pandemic and the students have loved it.”

A spokesman for the Darlington Borough Council run Dalkeith House added: “It was great to be able to offer the students the chance to do some work experience and give the tenants an opportunity to get out of their flats and mix with young people. The pamper sessions really boosted them up.”

For resident Rose Caygill it was the first time she had ever had her hands and nails done professionally. She said: “The hand massage was lovely, so soothing, and it’s nice to think we were also helping the students out.”

Student Olivia Dixon, 18, added: “The tenants were all lovely and really made us laugh. We have really enjoyed getting out of the college salon to work in the community.”
