A JUNIOR golfer is driving up the rankings after representing her country in a prestigious tournament.

Northallerton School & Sixth Form College student Julia Czechowska won three matches out of four at the competition, staged in Portugal.

The performance of the 16-year-old, of Romanby, helped England into a mid-field placing in the contest, which will be screened on Sky TV.

A member of Thirsk and Northallerton Golf Club and with an impressive handicap of just 20, she was selected from junior players from all over the country to go to Portugal.

“I was really pleased with how I played,” said Julia, who only took up the game three years ago.

“My stepfather got me into golf and I loved it from the word go. He makes me practise and seems to think I am good. This tournament was great experience and I would like to see where golf takes me.”

Principal Keith Prytherch said: “Representing her country from such a young age is an incredible achievement and Julia should feel very proud of herself. Golf offers amazing life opportunities and I sincerely hope that she continues to be successful in the sport.”
