A BUDDING chef’s Michelin star work experience proved to be a recipe for success after it landed him with a fulltime job.

Darlington College student Angus Duncan secured a 12 week placement at the celebrated Woven restaurant in Ascot run by Michelin star chef Adam Smith. The restaurant is the flagship of the Dorchester Luxury Collection.

And the experience looked so impressive on the Richmond 19-year-old’s CV that he was offered a job by the luxury hotel Rudding Park, at Follifoot, near Harrogate.

Angus has been cooking since he was a child encouraged by his grandmother, his repertoire ranging from cakes, tarts and pies to Asian cuisine.

“I’d heard a lot of good things about Darlington College and when I attended an open evening I liked what I saw,” he said.

“I completed my level 2 diploma in professional cookery, then my level 3 and am currently studying a foundation degree in hospitality and tourism management. I’m so pleased to get a job offer from Rudding Park.”

Angus visited Woven with his lecturer Dawn Cobb-Neate and secured a placement working there and at the business’s other restaurants, The Barn and The Drawing Room.

“I was working in the kitchen with Adam every day and he is such an impressive chef,” said Angus, who wants his own business one day.

“Some of the events were massive including weddings attended by a thousand people. It was an amazing experience and so different from what I was used to. I loved it and they said the door was always open if I wanted to go back.”

Dawn added: “Angus’s passion for cooking comes through in his work and he richly deserves this success. His drive and enthusiasm will take him far and I look forward to watching his career progress.”
