COMIC capers and weasel words were the hallmark of pupils’ latest production as they took to the riverbank for a tumultuous tale of friends and foes.

Year 3 and 4 pupils at Barnard Castle Preparatory School spent weeks rehearsing for their production of Kenneth Grahame’s Wind in the Willows.

They played to packed houses of friends and family for the hour-long performance of a magical journey into the English countryside.

Friends Mole, Ratty and Badger did their utmost to help the inimitable Mr Toad whose passion for life, motor cars and adventure landed him in trouble with a gang of sinister weasels.

Headmistress Laura Turner said: “The Wind in the Willows could have been written for Barney as it’s a tale of friendship, loyalty, resilience and joy, all the things we promote at school.

“The children worked so incredibly hard to learn their lines and their efforts were rewarded with some incredible performances, appreciated by two sell out performances.”
