LEGAL experts are offering HR managers, business owners and senior managers a chance to refresh their knowledge of employment law at two free seminars.

Solicitors at BHP Law are hosting the events to provide a quick round-up of recent changes and a look ahead to new legal requirements affecting both employers and employees.

The firm's employment law team will update employers with only introductory experience of employment law and share their expertise with those who need to refresh their knowledge.

In just 90 minutes, the specialists will provide a legislation and case law update and forecast how upcoming changes in employment law may impact on businesses and staff.

The events are at Northern Counties Club, 11 Hood Street, Newcastle, on September 29, and Best Western Hardwick Hall Hotel, Sedgefield, on September 30.

Partner Alistair Smith, who leads BHP Law’s new service for employers, said: “We intend to use delegates’ time efficiently at these seminars, which will provide an effective and valuable update and insight into employment law.”

Alistair is national legal adviser on disputes and disciplinary matters to the Federation of Small Businesses, as well as advising local and national businesses and trade associations on employment law and HR matters.

He is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, and can provide in-house training to bigger organisations at strategic level.

He will be joined by solicitor Oliver Hebdon and associate Paul Hargreaves, who specialise in employment dispute resolution and tribunal work.

Alistair added: “With offices in Darlington, Teesside, Durham and Newcastle, BHP is the only completely regional firm and can serve clients across the North East. We have a full range of services that business clients can access, backed by specialist advice and legal representation."

The events will start at 8.30am with a light breakfast and close with informal networking.

Attending the seminars is free but delegates are asked to book by contacting Jessica Hawthorn on 0191 332 4543 or emailing JessicaH@bhplaw.co.uk
