A TALENTED design duo drawn together by their love of art have illustrated their artistic partnership with a joint exhibition in the town where they perfected their skills.

Cleveland College of Art & Design graduates Becki Harper and Jam Grantham showcased an array of narrative artwork, ceramics and illustrations with a Pencil and Paper exhibition in the Dorman Museum, Middlesbrough.

Originally from Teesside the couple, who now live and work in York, both left the region to continue their studies at The University of The West of England.

“It’s really exciting to be back home for our first ever joint exhibition,” said Becky, 26, of Middlesbrough.

“Pencil and Paper is a showcase of our illustrations which we have been building up over the past couple of years.

“It’s great to be able to bring it all back to the place where we grew up and studied to share with everyone.”

Still in the early stages of their career, the couple, who have been together for 10 years, have already been highly commended in the Macmillan Children's Book Prize for their work and hope to continue to establish themselves further in the illustration industry.

Jam, 28, of Billingham, credited his former college with providing the foundations for his career.

“My time at CCAD was amazing I absolutely loved it,” he said. “It’s how I found myself as an artist. They gave me so much freedom and range and that really helped to develop my own style.

“It was at CCAD where I knew that I wanted to be children's illustrator and I still take a lot of inspiration from this region, my childhood and day to day life in my work."

Pencil and Paper will be on display on the first floor gallery of the Dorman Museum until Friday January 5.
