SIXTH formers will have to be on the ball after being selected to help Rugby World Cup officials.

Students from Richmond School and Sixth Form College will provide the ball team at two matches at Elland Road, Leeds, when Italy play Canada and Scotland tackle the USA on September 26 and 27 respectively.

All members of Richmondshire Rugby Club, the students have been specially trained and will man 25m sections of the pitch.

They have already tried out their new skills at matches at the grounds of Newcastle Falcons and Yorkshire Carnegie.

Team members include Scott McLeod, Ben Rainbow, Benjamin Fisher, Victoria Auger, Toby Watkins, Jonothan Shotton and Joshua Moulding, all 16.

Joshua said: “I have just started at Richmond Sixth Form and am really enjoying it. An opportunity like this is the icing on the cake.

“Being selected to be part of the Rugby World Cup ball team is an incredible privilege for us all and we will be trying our hardest to do a great job and represent Richmond School on the global stage.”
