A FAMILY run motor dealer has powered its way to the top of the charts with an almost 90 per cent hike in sales.

Vauxhall sales manager Andy Drinkel was presented with a special award after he and his team outsold all other marques in the area.

They registered 170 Vauxhalls compared to last year’s figure of 90 beating other manufacturers including Nissan and Ford, according to official figures from DVLA.

Andy, of Norton, Stockton, attributed the success to the raft of new models launched recently by Vauxhall including the trendy super-mini the Adam, the small SUV the Mokka, open top Cascada, face-lifted Astra and ever-popular MPV the Zafira.

The 37-year-old, who has worked with Vauxhall for 20 years, said: “This is the first time we have achieved this market share position and we are absolutely delighted. We have some really great product and the team has been working exceptionally hard to reach such heights.”

Vauxhall sales district manager Alan King added: “Vauxhall market share is up nationally but Sherwoods’ figures are truly exceptional.”

Sherwoods runs dealerships in Darlington, Stockton and Northallerton and has won a string of awards this year. The latest accolade includes all dealerships in the Darlington, Bishop Auckland, Northallerton and Yarm areas.

Managing director Alasdair MacConachie said: “Many of the customers have been with us for years and come back to us time and again. But I am also pleased to say that these latest figures include many new clients who we are thrilled to welcome on board.

“We continue to pride ourselves on customer service and looking after people’s entire motoring needs, not just making a quick sale, and this latest success reflects that our approach also makes commercial sense.”
