SCORES of students are going in search of adventure as their school launches the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme for the first time.

Forty pupils from The English Martyrs Catholic School and Sixth Form College, Hartlepool, have signed up to DofE, which aims to empower young people by developing new skills, overcoming obstacles and building their confidence and resilience.

Careers lead Rebecca Leighton said: “We are so excited about this and I can’t wait to see how such a group of enthusiastic students rise to the many challenges that this brilliant award offers.

“We are thrilled by how many students, from all year groups, want to be involved in DofE which will see them take part in a range of activities to develop their skills, help the community and go on expedition.”

Head teacher Sara Crawshaw added: “The beauty of DofE is that it challenges students in a fun and rewarding way, boosts their self-confidence, independence and leadership skills and improves their CV, while encouraging them to be active and outdoors.

“There was an appetite for this from our student body and Rebecca brings a host of experience in running DofE, which is challenging and diverse. This is about developing students’ learning beyond the curriculum to give them the very best tools to flourish.”
