A SIXTH former with fresh ideas on how to bring students, staff, parents and the local community together has earned herself a brand new leadership role.

Eve Butler, 17, so impressed sixth form managers at Trinity Academy when she applied for the role of head girl that they created a new position for her.

Eve, of Thorne, is the academy's first student community liaison leader and will now be able to put forward her ideas for improving communication, suggesting events and encouraging more charity work among students.

Lorna Hadwin, deputy head of sixth form, said: "Eve blew us away with her portfolio of ideas when she was interviewed for the head girl position. Her ideas for getting parents and the community involved in academy life were so fantastic that we decided we'd have to create a new position which would allow her to implement them."

Eve, who is studying A levels in business, maths, further maths and law, hopes to set up a group to involve parents and help boost students' performance in subjects such as maths, and to hold more parents' evenings across the year groups.

"The academy is successful because of the trinity of students, staff and parents but I'd like to strengthen those bonds even further through parents getting more involved and increased communication," she explained.

She is also aiming to organise charity events and more social events in school for students, and will oversee the Student Council.

Eve, who is a keen dancer and spends 15 hours a week training and coaching others, added: "Because it's a role no-one has had before it's difficult to know exactly what I'll be doing, but these are ideas I've had for a long time so it's great to be given the chance to voice them and hopefully implement as many as possible."
