TUXEDOS, tiaras, twins and tractors all made a spectacular appearance as party going prom pupils marked the end of their exams in style.

Arriving in vintage rollers, supercars, fire engines and state-of-the-art agricultural machines, Year 11 students at Darlington School of Mathematics and Science made their way to Hallgarth Hotel and Country Club, Darlington, for their final school celebration.

The 97 students dressed in dazzling evening wear were joined by 30 members of teaching staff as they sat down to a two course meal followed by an evening of dancing.

Assistant head Mr Paul Oliver said: “This has been a lovely year group, very hard working, mature and sensible.

“Tonight is the final celebration of five years at DSMS before they graduate and move on to the next stage in their lives.

“The prom is a chance for staff and pupils to join together one last time and hopefully we will have more reasons to celebrate with them when they get their exam results later in the summer.”

Twins Chloe and Ben Tinkler, 16, who are both heading to Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, Darlington, had mixed feelings about leaving their old school.

“I’m looking forward to going to QE but I will miss DSMS so much, said Chloe, who will be studying law.

“I can’t believe five years have gone so quickly – I’d love to do it all over again.”

Ben, who will be studying sport at the further education college, added: “DSMS has been amazing; I’ve loved every minute of it.

“I’ll really miss all my friends and teachers and especially all the school sports.”

Student Charlotte Ward, 16, made a dramatic entrance in a BMW i8 super sports car before 16-year olds Nathan Johnson and Amber Whitby rolled up in two state of the art Holland tractors supplied Lloyds Ltd, of Bishop Auckland.

“My dad works for Lloyds Ltd and they agreed to lend us the tractors to arrive at the prom,” said Amber.

“I don’t think anyone else has ever come to the school prom in anything like this before – it certainly made a big impression.”
