POST exam teens had a ball as they celebrated their schools annual prom evening with a dazzling red carpet event.

Fifty Year 11 students from Risedale Sports and Community College partied into the night at Hall Garth Hotel and Country Club, Darlington, as they marked the end of their time at the North Yorkshire School.

Pre meal drinks, of fruit punch, were served in hotel foyer before the students, wearing sparkling evening gowns and designer suits, enjoyed a buffet selection of sandwiches, focaccia wedges, cold meats and salad followed by chocolate truffle, raspberry cheesecake and lemon tart.

Head of year 11, Andrea Benson, who was one of ten teaching staff from Risedale Sports and Community College to attend the event, said: “This particular year group has been absolutely wonderful.

“The have all been extremely dedicated and hard working and have shown a real commitment to wanting to be successful in everything they do.

“It never ceases to amaze me how much effort they all make on nights like this and once again they all look absolutely fantastic and so gown up.”

Alongside an evening of dancing awards were presented to students for attitude, learning and commitment.

The prom king and queen were announced as Luke Jones  and Bethany Watling , after a vote from all students present before a special prom cake, made by Brenda Slack of Badgers Retreat.

Andrea added: “The prom committee decided that they would like to have a cake to mark the occasion and Brenda was kind enough to make it for us. We wish her luck as she has recently taken a post as kitchen manager at Ravensworth Primary School.”

Student Daniella Wright, 16, of Catterick, who will be studying level 2 sports at Darlington College in September said: “I have loved my five years at Risedale, especially the teachers, school trips and being with all my friends.

“It’s a bit upsetting that this will be the last time that we are all together but I’m also excited to be moving on and tonight is all about having fun.”
