YOUNG musicians proved age is no barrier to performing in concert when some of an academy's youngest students took to the stage.

Bede Academy South held its annual summer concert for parents and other family members, giving around 80 musicians and singers the chance to show off their talents.

Music lead David Tallent said: "The concert is an opportunity for our older students to show off what they have learned and, this year, also gave our youngest musicians the chance to perform, which they don't often get the chance to do. The most important thing is that we enjoy making music together.

"I'd like to say a special thank you to our Year 6 students who play in assemblies every week and are always keen to perform. I'm very grateful for their contribution to the academy as they leave us this summer."

The show highlighted the breadth of instruments the children can learn at Bede Academy and the range of musical styles they can play, from blues to rock, classical to pop.

The students played solos, in duets, trios and quartets, and the evening was rounded off by the upper choir.

Headteacher Irene Watson said: "The children work tirelessly every single day at school and at home, supported by their families, and they are a joy to listen to."
