A CHOIR of hundreds lifted spirits to new heights as an academy celebrated Christmas with friends and family.

Trinity Academy, Thorne, threw open its doors to the community for its annual carol concert.

A packed audience enjoyed a selection of readings, traditional carols and contemporary song.

Year 10 GCSE music students kicked off the proceedings with Winter Wonderland before guests were welcomed to the event by Principal Ian Brew.

He said: “It is always a pleasure to welcome friends and family into Trinity Academy and I know the students have been working extremely hard on their performances.”

The huge school choir then sang Away in a Manger and were then joined by the congregation in a rousing rendition of O Come All Ye Faithful.

Dale Hornsby, Sam Megraw Wilkinson and Baily Wilson performed the drama The Three Kings, which was followed by Silent Night sung in French.

Students Ellie Cockburn and Courtney Sheppard performed a dance routine and Mr Brew’s address centred on royalty. The proceedings were brought to a close with the carol Joy to the World.

All donations to a collection will go to the Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
